Pasture-Raised Beef

healthy, local beef from our family to yours

Our cattle are humanely raised on pasture which allows them to do what cows do best – eat a lot of grass. They have access to fresh water and free choice minerals. Frequently, they can be spotted lounging around on our shady hillsides. Our program is growth hormone free and organically-minded. Grass fed beef is leaner than grain fed and has been shown to be higher in beta carotene, vitamin E, and omega 3 fatty acids.

How It Works

Storyteller Farm beef is sold by the share, which means you are purchasing a quarter, half, or whole cow. The price is determined by the hanging weight, which is what it weighs when it arrives at the butcher shop after it has been initially processed in the field. A half is approximately 300-400 lbs. At the butcher, they remove the bones and excess trim, so approximately 65% of the hanging weight will be the final amount of meat. There it will hang and age for about two weeks before getting cut and packaged according to the customer’s preferences.

Our price is $4.50 per pound off the hanging weight plus a $90 slaughter fee for a half, $45 for a quarter. There is also a separate cut and wrap fee the customer pays directly to the butcher when the meat is picked up.

Multiple butcher dates are scheduled. Message us to inquire about availability and to reserve your beef. A non-refundable deposit of $100 for a quarter, $250 for a half, and $500 for a whole will be collected with your reservation.
